QuickSet Test Results

The following is a summary of the test results we have for the QuickSet anchors. These tests were conducted by Kingston Anchors with an independent observer.

Setting ability:

All sizes were tested on land to ensure they set properly. A hard sand, gravel and grass area located at our shop was used for the tests. Rope only rode was used with a scope of about 6:1. In all cases the anchors set in less than 2 feet in these adverse conditions. Once set the anchor continues to dig deeper and deeper.

Holding tests:

The following water tests were made in the summer and fall of 2001.

Test Series 1:

bottom: light weed covered mud and clay (good holding ground) 5/8 nylon rode, no chain, 6:1 scope
QS-14: 6 sets average holding 1078lbs.
Comparison
Delta 14: 5 sets average 306 lbs.
12 lb. Danforth style: 3 sets average 186 lbs., 1 no set.

Test Series 2:

bottom: soft mud with heavy weeds (very poor holding ground) 5/8 nylon rode, no chain, 6:1 scope.
QS-14: 5 sets average 383 lbs.
Comparison
Delta 14: 5 sets average 170 lbs.

Test Series 3:

bottom: light weed covered mud and clay (good holding ground) 5/8 nylon rode, no chain, 6:1 scope
QS-22: set to 1000 lbs., 90 degree shift and pulled to 1031 lbs. before stopping.
QS-35: set to 1041 lbs., 90 degree shift and pulled to 1108 lbs. before stopping.
(note in the above tests the boat used was capable of pulling about 1200 lbs. max, so we set the anchor and pulled until the anchor was well set before we shifted 90 degrees to check the responsed to a side load.)

Test Series 4:

land based test in soft sand beach 5/8 nylon rode, no chain, 6:1 scope, pulled with Jeep
QS-22: 1623 lbs.
Comparison
HS-20: (Danforth style) 1591 lbs.
